Industry Performance

As consumers bear the brunt of rising fuel, heating, and interest costs they've been required to put the brakes on casual disposable spending - albeit they continue spend more than they earn. This is reflected in our comparative industry performance table. Consumer Electronics, Home Furnishings and Specialty Retail posted red numbers. At the same time, seasonal changes necessitated they alocate their dollars to Footwear, Apparel, and value selections found at Mass Merchants and Department Stores/Catalogs. We also oberserved a steady rise in both the number of shoppers using the Internet to combat gas prices and meet their hectic time schedules.
